You should not do this in rc.local. See my previous note about dhclient.conf...

If you insist on using rc.local, then it should be:

echo "nameserver 8.8.8.8" >> /etc/resolv.conf

and that line should come before the 'exit 0' line, not after.

Also, be aware that this *won't work* because you're adding the
nameserver to the end of the file, and the file is parsed beginning to
end. So if the dhcp server sends down two nameservers, they'll be
queried before the 8.8.8.8 server.

So, really, use dhclient.conf. That's what it's for...
